Beacon Hill Village emerged from grassroots conversations among friends and neighbours, and leadership today remains firmly within the local community. www.beaconhillvillage.org |
The Beacon Hill Village model offers a paradigm shift in the concept of home and community based aged care. Consumers are in control.
When Susan Mc Whinney-Morse, Nancy Myers Coolidge and friends began talking in the mid 1990's their goal was to make it possible for older neighbours to continue living on Beacon Hill,in the Boston they love, alive with children, dogs, engaged working people, civic ties, familiar shops and parks, health clubs, museums, concerts -- and friends. They wanted to secure this option and the peace of mind it offers for themselves and their neighbours. In 2001 they created a membership based nonprofit organisation which creates a network of social connections, and provides an on-call concierge service to enable easy access to information and support services if and when you need them. This model enables members to live conveniently, safely and happily as they grow older in their own homes. Membership fees fund paid staff who provide core member services. The Executive Director is responsible to the Board of Management drawn from the members.
